Journey to the Kingdom of happiness
It’s been a long wish to visit Bhutan, as I have heard so much about it and seen many photo albums and books. The history of this ancient kingdom, led by a young king, fascinates me.
Historically, Kalachakra is closely associated with the Dalai Lamas and with Namgyal Monastery. The Seventh Dalai Lama began providing Kalachakra Initiations to large communities of ordained and lay practitioners in Tibet during the 18th century. Since then, subsequent Dalai Lamas have continued this tradition. The current Dalai Lama, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, has bestowed over thirty Kalachakra Initiations throughout the world. While it empowers prepared practitioners for meditation, it also inspires many others who attend to grow spiritually.
Kalachakra, meaning “cycles of time,” brings our attention to the challenges posed by the passage of time. We age, lose our abilities, and eventually die. From a perspective of rebirth, these cycles repeat endlessly, which can seem daunting.
The advanced meditation techniques in Kalachakra help us break free from the limitations of time, allowing us to direct our lives towards helping others despite bodily or worldly changes. When diverse groups come together to learn about love, compassion, and wisdom, they create a harmonious environment. Such gatherings are a beautiful way to contribute to world peace.
Gandaan teaching monastery, the central Buddhist monastery of Mongolia requested His Holiness the Dalai Lama to bestow the Kalachakra initiation in Mongolia in August 2024 but due to HHDL age and not traveling abroad since 2017, HHDL has nominated Jhado Rinpoche to bestow the Kalachakra initiation on his behalf.
Jhado Tulku Rinpoche was born in 1954 to a nomadic family living in the area of Namtso Lake, 220 kilometers north of Lhasa, Tibet. At the age of three, he was recognized and enthroned as the 6th incarnation of the abbot of Jhado Monastery. After fleeing Tibet in 1959, Rinpoche lived briefly in Nepal and later spent several years in Dalhousie and Dharamsala in North India where he completed his basic studies in Tibetan reading, writing and reciting Buddhist texts. Rinpoche took his vows as a novice monk from His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 1964 and his full ordination vows from the late Ling Rinpoche in 1973.
In 1991, Rinpoche attained the degree of Geshe Lharamba, the highest level of education in the Gelug tradition. In 1997, Rinpoche was appointed to the post of Abbot of Namgyal Monastery and served the institution in that capacity until 2004. Renowned for his keen intelligence and dynamic teaching style, Jhado Rinpoche is also highly acclaimed for his ability to engage Western students in ways that are interesting and personally relevant. In addition to these qualities, Rinpoche is also well known and loved for his gentle demeanor and his kindness.

India! It never leaves you indifferent. I admire Indians for their love to live to the fullest, if it is about a dress – it will be the most colorful, if it is about food – it will be with all the possible spices and tastes, if it is about friendship – it will be forever and heart to heart.
